Weekend in Toronto pt. 1

Here’s a look at what I wore today or “if I were a boy” as BeyBey would say. This look is easy and comfortable because of the layers and loose fit. The sneakers made for an enjoyable walk on queen st west. On the plus side, the entire outfit is perfectly unisex so you and your bae can match.

My boyfriend and I went to Toronto for the weekend and had a great stay. It was our first time using airbnb (we stayed on top of a store on queen st west) and I have no horror stories to tell so.. score!

We mainly toured around the city; visited Kensington market, Dundas square, the eaton center, the art gallery of Ontario, and of course explored the neighbourhood where we stayed and found this amazing graffiti alley, had to snap an ootd!

On top of exploring, we ate some amazing food which was recommended to me by a friend, and now I’d like to pass on the yummy eats and suggest to you if ever you’re in the 6ix to try out Neuf Café (a Parisian style café that serves unreal breakfast), momofuku noodle bar, harlem (can never go wrong with chicken and waffles) and north of Brooklyn pizzeria.

I had a lovely and chilled out Valentine’s weekend with my sweetie and I hope you did too whether it was with your S/O or just your best gal pal.

Be wine 💘

This is the perfect daytime vday outfit for my single lady friends out there. All black as per usual with a shirt that says “be wine” because wine will always be there for you.

Added a pop of colour with my favourite Matt and nat bag and I’m good to go!

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!

Against the plain – Pt. 3

Happy Hump Day! (aka Wednesday)
This is my ideal comfy yet put together outfit for school.
I’ve seen others pair the same colour on the top and bottom recently and it always catches my eye so I thought I’d give it a go!
I threw on a blanket scarf for extra warmth and comfort. If you don’t already have one, I’d strongly recommend investing in a giant scarf because they are a life saver when it’s chilly in class and is used as my shield against the cold wintery months when walking outside on campus.

I look like a burrito of oatmeal and I’m ok with that. (mmm oatmeal)

Pairing the old with the new

A common quote I live by is “you can never go wrong with an all black outfit”. You’re guaranteed that all the items will go together, and you can have fun with textures and shapes; as I’ve stated in a different post previously. A piece I particularly like in this outfit are the ripped black jeans. I bought those bad boys in Time Square (NYC) during my “emo days” (circa 2009-2010) as some would call it, and never wore them until very recently. A perk of staying the same height/weight since grade 9 is that you have double the wardrobe compared to others who grew to be 6ftsomething. Ripped jeans are very “on trend” as of late, yet I didn’t have to spend a penny on these, just had to dig through my closet!

Shout outs to Felix Desroches for the photography and editing of these photos.

Against the plain – Pt. 2

I’d like to start by saying happy Friday! I hope you all have a  wonderful weekend.
This look is all about the skirt. I’ve been wanting a button-up jean skirt for a while now and the ones at American apparel just didn’t seem to fit right. As I was waltzing through the mall after a long day of class, Zara’s sale caught my attention and I simply had to sneak a peak. Low and behold they had a denim skirt… and the best part.. it was on sale for 15$! If that’s not a bargain I don’t know what is.
To really let the skirt be the statement I went for opaque tights and a black turtle neck.

Against the plain – Pt. 1

Hello….

…it’s me…Emily! It’s 2016, and although I don’t believe in new year’s resolutions; as I’m a firm advocate for people to change whenever it’s needed… I figured I’d make a change in this new year and finally start my very own blog. I use the word style instead of fashion because it seems more laid back, plus I will admit that I don’t follow the latest trends and looks on the runways. My style varies through my mood, my surroundings, and my experiences. I do not force myself to follow one look because to me, that’s too boring. Life changes and molds you, so why not have your clothing do the same. Goodbye minimalism, hello fun and freedom!
For my first look I figured I’d do a very typical “Emily” easy look.
A band tshirt, some jeans, and a faux-leather jacket is something I’d throw on any day and feel comfortable and confident.
